Are you concerned that your blog is too new to host the Carnival? Big blogs and small blogs are invited to apply to host the Carnival, as are new blogs and old blogs. When scheduling, we like to include a mix of veterans and newbies, so if you’re interested, don’t hold back.

If you’ve applied before and haven’t been selected, please apply again.

This keeps the Carnival of Personal Finance unique, fresh, and excellent. Please respect this guideline.

In September, we will start looking for volunteers who would like to host over the remainder of the year.

We are currently seeking hosts through September 2008.

We will begin accepting more applications to host the Carnival of Personal Finance in June for all dates through September 2008.

Participating in the Carnival is all about building buzz, and that only works when participants link back. The “link love” must work two ways. Therefore, we have begun creating a list of spam blogs and bloggers who habitually don’t link back to ensure that the only participants included in the Carnival are those who believe in this mission.

The sooner you link back, the better, but we have no problem with the Carnival being included in a weekly round-up as much as a week later. We have no problem if the link to the latest Carnival is an aside at the bottom of an unrelated post. As long as you link back to the Carnival each time your submission is included, we are happy.

Get Rich Slowly will host the second anniversary edition of the carnival next Monday. I want to make this one something especially valuable to readers, so I’m breaking from the traditional format.

To participate in CoPF #105, please submit your BEST article from the past two years. Do not submit an article from the previous week (unless, of course, it’s your best post). If you submit a recent article, I will reply to verify that you do indeed think this is your best post from the past two years.

Use this opportunity to sell yourself. If you uphold your end of the bargain, I’ll do my best to sell the carnival to channels outside the norm. (You’re welcome to help with this effort, too.) This is a great chance to generate more exposure for the pfblogging community.

Before you take the plunge and request to host, make sure you read and understand the requirements of hosting. Please realize that hosting the Carnival can be a lot of work. There are often between 60 and 90 submissions that must be read. The host must at the least choose several as “Editor’s Choice” and provide quick commentary or summaries.

If you applied for a previous quarter but were not added to the schedule, please fill in the form so we can get your updated stats. If you’ve hosted already this year, feel free to request to host again.

If you’ve applied before but didn’t make the final cut or were on the waiting list, as long as you still meet the qualifications, there’s a good chance you’ll be selected this time around if you re-apply.

• During the week before, announce to your readers that you will be hosting, and solicit submissions using this form.
• The Carnival must be posted by 9:00 am Eastern Time on the date assigned, usually a Monday.
• The host must weed out any multiple submissions, commercial advertisements, spam, scams or inappropriate articles.
• The host must email all selected participants to inform when the Carnival is live.
• Within the Carnival, hosts must link to the Carnival home page at some point.

• The host must highlight his or her favorite articles in some fashion, providing at least a little editorial comment.

  The Hosting Guidelines page also has some suggestions for making the Carnival a success in addition to these requirements.
